The National Wedding Show …

This week saw a styling job at Olympia’s National Wedding fair.

I’ve never been to a wedding show before but have worked on quite a few weddings, so the experience was a bit of an insight into the business side of martrimony. I’m a little overwhelmed by how big this event is- especially when they were driving classic cars into the space – and sound checking what sounded suspiciously like a Game of Thrones soundtrack. However,  I got to climb on a 4m high wedding cake so in that sense was in my element.

Nancy Bar

Channelling our best The Cure/ Placebo/ Republica playlist we regressed back to our childhoods for our nineties inspired theme bar: The Amy Grimehouse Team put on a trashtastic night where you could Hex your Ex and dance supercamp cabaret before taking your seats to watch a screening of “The Craft”. Needless to say cocktails were mandatory and served, we like to think, with plenty of grunge attitude and space raider crisps of course!

The Craft- Valentine’s Massacre

Next Saturday, Amy Grimehouse- East London’s favourite concept cinema sensation are screening “The Craft” at Sutton house – a Tudor Manor House in Hackney

We couldn’t help but get involved, so we are running a occult themed cocktail bar. Where we will be selling potions to punters.

Cult Classics at the T.V. Diner…

This week I was working on Virgin Media’s one day Pop Up Diner in Soho…

It had a menu inspired by gory thriller series and films. So, as you can imagine a lot of fun with the guys from Pretty Green trying to figure out what weird references to the t.v. show there’d be on show. There was use of Radox salts to be the Blue Crystal Meth in Breaking Bad and a great picture of John Travolta on the toilet in the loo. However surely the best bit about it was getting to have the five dollar shake from Pulp Fiction – Dulce de Leche ice cream and peanut butter – mmm, with a side of Los Pollos Hermanos chicken wings.

Just uploaded the proper pictures to my website:

But here is the 5 dollar shake in all it’s glory…

Cash and Rocket

Every year 70 uber-successful, gorgeous and utterly enviable women are hand picked to go on a road trip to visit various European cities in 35 red sports cars for charity (as to which one, it changes every year I think?)  This year they are driving from London to Venice via Geneva and Paris of course. The whole saga gets sponsored by fashion houses such as Valentino, who conceivably like the red theme. It is just so very glamorous.

In any case last night Cash and Rocket had a launch party at The Net a Porter head offices, I was working on their scarlet themed soiree, which looked like how I’d imagine it would look like if you held a party inside the ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz. I can promise that nothing is more exciting than receiving a van full of pre-inflated balloons,  if I had all the money in the world I would buy a van load of foil balloons and roll around in it with a bottle of champagne.

Flowers for Fendi

Despite the deluge outside, we set up a very Spring like event at Sotheby’s for the opening of the new Fendi store in New Bond St on Thursday night. I think these are my favourite flowers from any event that I’ve done- We had peonies  nearly as big as dinner plates and the whole room smelt so heady. I made sure to take home a few bunches but it wasn’t nearly as striking as when they are all here en masse.

Mastering marshmallows – 3rd (or maybe 4th) time lucky

There comes a time in everyone’s life when they have to admit defeat but I thought I’d give them one last go finally, after several failed attempts, I actually followed the recipe successfully to make marshmallows, as per “Marshmallow Apothecary’s” aphrodisiac marshmallows instructions, the flavours are rose and ginger. This may be because I actually invested in glucose syrup this time round.

I think I overdid it on the food colouring, Although they are a pleasant pastel yellow colour when dusted in the jar, as soon as they hit my hot chocolate they turned the colour of nuclear waste, yummy. Still… I love marshamallows and will be eating them on my toast, in my coffee and with my glass of wine for the next couple of weeks until I make myself quite nauseous!

The Robin Collective who makes the marshmallow apothecary have a workshop at Drink, Shop & Do, in the next few weeks and you get to make “a menagerie” of mallow-animals including bunny rabbits. I’m sold. And in fact seeing that they were conducting this workshop was what made me want to get back on that horse in terms of my failed attempts, thus far.!news/c4bs
