The Surrealist Ball

This weekend I was working at the most fabulously decadent ball – It was based on the infamous surrealist ball that Marie Rothschild held at Le Château de Ferrières in 1972, completely dreamlike, bizarre and trippy.

You were greeted by the building ablaze (done with fire troughs and lighting effects), Followed by actors dressed up as admirals, jesters and dancing lampshades. An illustrated sushi bar with sashimi in sardine cans, banquet table, A ballet, with a fireworks display and a dancing nose.

I was working at the event but had also been asked to make some surrealist eye head dresses, so that the birthday girl could re-enact this photo from the original ball.

I haven’t seen all of the photos from the party yet but here’s my version of the eyes made in papier-mâché the old fashioned way with a balloon and a lot of PVA glue. Which I reckon is fairly accurate?

Last Week, a project I designed for Pretty Green Ltd PR co. went live for Pandora jewellery’s A/W collection. We wanted to make the shop like a golden fairy tale forest and I’m really happy to finally see it after it went into production. Also… I quite want an arch like this for my front door, it would make everyday a launch party.

Demon Ice cream Bombe

This is one that I did for my flatmate’s birthday. She likes ice cream so it was meant to be a kind of gluten-free ice cream bombe but she kind of slumped a bit. The cake is an onyro (a vengeful spirit) from Japan, dribbling blood and looking angry. It’s based on the legend of kashima reiko, a japanese school girl, who lost her legs when she was ran over by a train.

Me and my mum were playing about with my little pony figurines – I don’t know why?

Last Week at Latitude Festival, I was called in super last minute to do the furnishing of the “Lake side restaurant and bar” at Latitude. The gimmick was that it was a fine dining experience: serving seafood and prosecco, within the festival. On the saturday night I went along for my prawn cocktail and all thought covered in mud… I still felt super swanky.

Christmas Time in Epping Forest

Last week I got to go tree climbing in Epping forest for a Christmas night shoot. Actually this shoot employed many a boy-scout skill. We wired all the electronics in the studio, cable tied adaptors 15ft up trees and even got to use ghostbuster type spray-backpacks for snow removal. This is the first of what I hope will be more summer christmas jobs- I have been singing christmas songs ever since, much to the annoyance of my peers.

Blenheim Palace

Working at Blenheim Palace – I still have the sunburn to prove that it did indeed happen, it was all a bit of a whirlwind, and there was definitely not much sleep but it definitely happened. Note below is a herb bar, which I planted up and was serving mojitos all night long at the wedding after party. It’s something I think I’d quite like to replicate in my own garden as mojitos on tap, seems like a staple must for any home.
