A dark december mist descends over Euston as we lurk around the back of St Pancras Church; over the wet gravel we go towards a red door lit from within. It lures us down to the crypt below…
“The Crypt Gallery” is a little gallery space in the bowels of this large, classically constructed, functioning church. The church and it’s basement seem largely unrelated to one another. The space is amazingly atmospheric with great lighting and bits of broken columns and gravestones everywhere. The art is extremely mediocre and this particular collection seemed to be largely inspired to the point of plagiarism by Gerhard Richter.
– but we didn’t go there for that we went there because it is notoriously creepy!
The tomb is just like something from raiders of the lost ark and I would like there to be a masquerade ball down there, where I could drink from a red wine fountain and watch debauchery from the shadowy volts.
If only I could get my hands on it!
