A few months ago I worked on a project called “Tea” with Complicite theatre company and Gerry Pilgrim – we set up an old fashioned tea room based on Lyon’s tea rooms, in sheltered housing. We redecorated the resident’s common room, so that it was ever so dainty and then opened up to the public for 4 days. We served the most divine cakes, scones and sandwiches inspired by recipes that the residents remember and collaborated with a catering college who lent us a few of it’s students to help bake. The cherry on the cake (so to speak) was the surreal performance that we did in the tea room involving 2 pairs of identical twins, a string quartet and a teapot that poured glitter. It was lovely!
A few days ago the piece won the National Housing Federation’s Community Impact Award!
Hopefully we’ll do it again some time it was the prettiest culmination of all things tea, you’ve ever seen!
