Love Locks

I was walking next to Shoreditch Highstreet Overground today and I saw this…

Image Upon asking Nia, I found out that it’s quite a common trend that has been growing since the early 2000s. Padlocks are placed symbolically on the fence by couples from all over the world, in declaration of love. Granted, It’s a bit saccharine but I like the urban take on a more classical romance. This one is in it’s early stages but they can get completely covered like moss in metal. I researched it a bit, they seem to have originated in Rome on the “Ponte Milvio”, the concept was taken from an Italian romantic novel “I want you” by Frederico Moccia.- but there is some contrition over the origin.

I like them- I don’t know if I’ll join in or not,  there’s something a bit aggressive about wanting to lock your relationship with a padlock. It makes a pretty picture none the less.
